Kialy Tihngang

We're excited to present major new solo show from Cameroonian-British multidisciplinary artist Kialy Tihngang. Tihngang will explore the unstable territories between history, memory and representation. Working across moving image, sculpture, performance, textile, photomontage and writing, Tihngang examines the ways colonial narratives have shaped representations of West African cultures, while considering how these histories are fragmented, romanticised and reimagined within the diaspora.

Reimagining depictions of otherness and marginalisation using the visual language of Western mass media, Tihngang constructs an exaggerated world where satire, performance and absurdity become tools for interrogating Blackness, queerness and Britishness with humour as a strategy for survival, resistance and imagining new forms of belonging.
