Dundead Halloween

Join us for special events, classic films and a surprise preview throughout October to celebrate the most terrifying time of year

We're filling DCA Cinema with horror, cult and weird cinema to celebrate Halloween.

Dundead Halloween brings you a selection films to scare, thrill and surprise you throughout October, all in celebration of the spookiest time of the year. Our 2026 offerings dig into the banned, the cut and the controversial, with a selection of special events, vintage classics and one Surprise Preview, plus more to be announced.

October begins with a very special event: The Phantom of the Opera (1925) with live score by Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman + Q&A. Last year, to celebrate the milestone 100th anniversary of Rupert Julian’s iconic film, Dundead commissioned a brand-new score by Scottish musicians Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman. A year on, and the duo are releasing an album of the score titled House With A Curse. To celebrate, they and the Phantom are returning to DCA for a special album launch event: a screening of the film with live accompaniment, followed by a Q&A.

The scares continue with Audition, akashi Miike's pitch-black satire from 1999. With its shocking mix of tones and grisly violence, the film reportedly caused walk-outs when first released but is now celebrated as a masterpiece of the late-90s/early-2000s J-horror wave. With continued rumours of an American remake, this is a great chance to catch the original back on the big screen.

Fangs and capes at the ready for Hammer's 1958 Dracula, which returns to the silver screen with a stunning 4K restoration featuring newly-rediscovered footage. Cut by censors at the time of release and once thought lost, this version of the film has never been shown in the UK before. Our screening will include a cinema exclusive short film that explores the film's painstaking restoration.

As well as scares, our Halloween programme is set to deliver on horror fun. Spike your hair and don your most outrageous 80s style for The Return of the Living Dead. We're collaborating with Climax Dundee again and starting the screening with some amazing live drag before giving over our brraaiiinnnns to the film's punk score, rib-tickling gags and gut-churning gore. Then there's our Surprise Preview, which has become one of our favourite Halloween traditions. We'll be sharing a brand new film - the only catch is that you won't know what it is until the film starts playing.

For Halloween itself, heed The Omen as we bring you Richard Donner's film in 4K for its 50th anniversary. Come in costume to celebrate Halloween and you could win some Dundead treats.

See all five films in this year's Dundead Halloween programme (excludes The Phantom of the Opera event - book separately here) and save with a Dundead Halloween Pass for £40 (£37.50 for DCA Members). Passes and individual tickets are available to DCA Members from Wed 2 September (make sure you are logged in to book) and go on general sale from Mon 7 September at 10:00.

As always with Dundead I try to offer a variety of films that come under our umbrella, and we have a really interesting Halloween line-up this year. Some really thorny and complex films like Audition rub shoulders with pure shlock in The Return of the Living Dead, and we end with a true horror classic on Halloween night at our 50th anniversary, 4K screening of The Omen. It’s also lovely to be collaborating with our friends at Climax Dundee again and to be bringing our The Phantom of the Opera project back for a special album launch show with Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman. It’s always a fun time of the year to be immersed in the worlds of the spooky and the horrific and what better way to enjoy it than in a cinema filled with other horror fans.
