One day course

  • Select a time to view seat availability

Course date: Sun 15 March (one-day course).

Learn how to laser-cut and engrave hand-drawn, computer-generated and photographic images onto different materials such as paper, wood, perspex and fabric.

What will be covered?
This is a general introduction to laser cutting which will cover how to prepare and output laser files from the laser software and how to cut them on a variety of materials. We will work from line drawings, photographs and text as a starting point. The emphasis will be on experimenting with a variety of approaches and materials, rather than creating one finished piece. All the materials we will work on are provided and will be A5 (21 x 15 cm). It may be possible to take a print from one or more of your samples later, but there will not be time to do this during the course

What should I bring?
1. A memory stick (if possible)
2. A simple line drawing on it (i.e. high contrast black and white, rather than subtle tones). Scanned at 150 dpi and A5 size if possible.
3. A photograph in JPEG format with a good range of tones approx 150 dpi and A5 size.
4. A quote, poem or phrase: this can be in any format as you will type it onto the screen.
5. A notepad and pen.

What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing and shoes, as you will spend a certain amount of time standing. Please note no sandals or open-toed footwear in the Print Studio.

What should I expect?
A hands on introduction to what a laser cutter can do and how to achieve a number of different results with it.

Please ensure you have read our Print Studio Terms and Conditions before booking on to any of our Print Studio courses or workshops.
