Schemers

Dave Mclean

Captioned screenings: Our Schemers screening on Saturday 24 October, 18:15, will be captioned for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences.

This film has to be one of our most-requested films over the last few years and we’re delighted to be able to say that Dundee’s very own Schemers has finally been released and is here on our screens.

“Schemers is an unashamed love letter to Dundee”

Set at the tail end of the 1970s, Schemers tells the real-life story of director Dave Mclean (played by newcomer Conor Berry), as he chances his way through his twenties, getting into scrapes (and generally in over his head), turning to the world of music promotion to make some money and, importantly, to impress girls; namely Shona, played by Tara Lee (Moon Dogs, Eastenders). As Davie and his two pals Scot and John bounce from one shambolic gig to the next, finding themselves deeper and deeper in debt to the local mob, they stumble across a potential solution to their problems – booking an up-and-coming heavy metal band called Iron Maiden to play the Caird Hall. What could possibly go wrong?

With a uniquely Dundonian sense of wit, plenty of DIY punk spirit, a cast of colourful characters and positively filled to the brim with familiar locations, Schemers is an unashamed love letter to Dundee itself, and the people who make up our city. If there’s one film we know that Dundee audiences have been excited to see it’s Schemers, and we are just as excited to welcome you to DCA to see it.

When you’re booking your cinema ticket you’ll notice the cinema has been divided into ‘bubbles’ of one or two in order to maintain social distancing. You won’t be able to book part of a bubble, but you can book more than one: for instance a group of four can book two bubbles of two.

If you can’t find a combination of seats that suits your group please get in touch and we’ll try to help, although capacity is very limited in all screenings. We’re working on a more flexible seating plan that we hope to be able to roll out very soon.
